Stevie Wonder quit MoTown in 1970 and released two albums on his own. Berry Gordy was stunned to hear this from Stevie Wonder. Berry Gordy signed Stevie Wonder's request for more independence, complete creative control and right to all his songs. Stevie Wonder signed a contract that was worth 13 million dollars with MoTown Records in 1972. This entitles Stevie Wonder to a higher royalty rate and more full creative control as well as the right to his own tracks, which was not a lot of artists could get in that period. The agreement allowed Wonder's music to speak about controversial issues such as poverty, war, drugs, and politics.Stevie is known for writing and performing political songs such as, You Haven't Do Nothing, that took a political swipe at Richard Nixon. The album he released in 1972, Music Of My Mind was the first to be released under the new MoTown contract. Talking Book was Stevie Wonder's album from late in 1972. It is still a major piece of music. The album included Superstition which was the top-rated chart-topping song of the year.
